Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my niece was just admitted to a rehab Tuesday night for prescription drug abuse, they just called my sister and said they don t think they can help her they think she need s psych help. They asked if she had mental health issues which the answer was NO, they said they she tested negative for meth which they say is what causes psychosis. My question is can prescription drugs(norco) with anxiety meds cause psychosis
I understand your concern and I would explain that anxiety medicines and opioids can also cause psychosis, because they may lead to hallucinations and delirium. For this reason, her situation should improve after stopping these drugs. If her situation does not improve, consulting with a psychiatrist may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
