What Causes Puffy Eyes In An Infant?

Hi my little girl is 15 weeks and usually sleeps on her back. However she s started rolling and last night she slept on her side, this morning both eyes were puffy and took a few hours to go down. Ive just put her to bed and she s gone straight onto her side again, is the puffiness normal when they first start sleeping on their side?

Hello,

I read your message and understood your problem.

I may say that this is something that normally happens to the infants. Infants can open their eyes and see but they need time to focus their sight during the first weeks of their lives.

This is why their eyes may look out of lines or crossed at times during the first 2-3 months of age.

Some infants have puffiness of their eyelids which makes them not to be able to open their eyes immediately but they need some time. This is especially true if your daughter has not slept well or if she slept in an awkward position.

Babies have the doll's eye reflex. They tend to open their eyes more when you keep them in an upright position. You can try this with daughter to train her eyes.

This is a completely normal situation and there is nothing to worry about.
If it will get repeated and your daughter will have other symptoms like keep crying, fever or less peeing, then, should consult further with her pediatrician.

Try to see if there is any specific food that make her eyes become puffy.

Hope this is helpful.
