Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pulling And Tugging Sensation Outside The Eye Balls?
I have had pain on the outer side of my eyeball for the past two months. This pain I describe pulling/ tugging/tight, and a dull ache. It lasts for about 30 mins. It can happen in both eyes. Every day I have this pain that sneaks up and I deal with in one or both of my eyes. I am a truck driver that has had cataracts removed from both eyes about 18 months ago since then two retinal detachments, and two retinal tears in my right eye only. I am using lubricating eye drops about 5 times a day. Any ideas on what might be happening. I see my opthamologist in two months.
Pain in the eye is probably not associated with cataract removal or retinal detachment since both conditions are painless. The pain in the eye could be due to strain. There could be a refractive error which could lead to muscle strain and thus pain. I suggest you consult your ophthalmologist at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shailja Puri,
