Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 73 yr old male. For the past 2years I have been having a constant pulling sensation under my rib cage on both sides especially while standing/walking. Taking a deep breath is uncomfortable. No problem while lying down. Pressing the area with both hands or wearing an elastic support gives relief. A CT scan of the chest shows nothing abnormal. I had coronary artery bypass surgery 10 years ago.
hello sir, thanks for writing in. i understand your concern. sometimes what you are describing as a pulling sensation under rib cage could be due to costochondritis (inflammation of cartilages in the junctions of cartilage and ribs) . other causes could be due to gastroeosophageal reflux disease(acidity). however since CT of chest is normal its unlikely that its anything serious. since you have a past history of bypass surgery, kindly consult your cardiologist for a thorough cardiac check up. kindly relax dont worry.
