My father in law went into pulmonary and cardiac failure a day after open heart surgery. The event occurred 10 days ago. He is no longer on sedation but is in a sleeping state, he is on a ventilator and CPAP but is doing some breathing on his own. They have been doing EEG s every day now and there is still no brain activity and is having multiple seizers a day. We know that it took 25-30 minutes of CPR to resuscitate him and the doctors did say he has an anoxic brain injury. What are the chances at this point that he will wake up and is there a possibility of severe brain damage?
