What Causes Pulsating Painful Bulge Under The Jaw While Yawning?

I had one of my back lower molers extracted last year and have noticed that everytime I yawn there is a painful buldge coming from under my jaw and it seems like it pulses for a few seconds then goes away. This didnt worry me at first but the pain that comes with it everytime I yawn is starting to raise a concern. Could this be TMJ or something similar or is it something more serious involving my lymph nodes?

Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query can occur due to three things . It can be your thyroid , can be any malignant growth or lymph node . This should be examined clinically and with certain diagnostic methods . The bildge probably not related to molar extraction.

I would suggest you to consult you doctor / physician. . Doctor may will examine physically , may order X-ray ,blood test or biopsy of the lump to find out the exact cause and rule out more serious problems .

Doctor will prescribe antibiotics for lymph nodes along with anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen . If there is any growth then doctor will refer you to ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) or general surgeon. If there is problem related to thyroid then doctor will prescribe medicine according to that.

For now hive hot compresses to that area 2-3 times a day and do warm saline gargles .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
