Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pulsating Sensation Below The Sternum?
Hello, I have been having an odd, pulsating sensation just below my sternum. It occurs mostly at night when I m trying to go to sleep and sometimes causes me to wake up gasping for air just after falling asleep. Any ideas? I had a full work up by a cardiologist, and he did find anything wrong with my heart.
I hope your cardiologist examined for the size of aorta and other blood vessels as enlarged aorta can also result in pulsating feeling below sternum. A simple chest X-ray will give you an idea about size of aorta. You can discuss this with your doctor and get the proper imaging done.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Meera Rajeev, Anesthesiologist
