What Causes Purple Bruising And Swelling In Ankle Joint After Injury?

Hello, on Aug. 18th I dropped a very large plate on my foot and it hit the tendon near the ankle joint. It instantly burned and turned purple. The swelling followed very soon after. I elevated and used ice periodically for 2 days. It is still swollen and painful to touch. I can walk just fine and (with pain) rotate my ankle. Do you think I should see a doctor? My doctor told me he couldn t look at me because it happened at work. (After I waited over one and a half hours) thank you, Kim

General & Family Physician 's  Response
If your tendon is torn, it's very severe injury. Your ankle must be immobilised for about three weeks or if necessary have to be repaired surgically. So please consult orthopaedic surgeon as soon as possible. Till then do not put weight on injured foot, as it may aggravate injury.
