What Causes Purple Bruising On The Bottom Of Foot Along With Pain?

A few days ago I kicked the wall. Immediately I felt pain and couldn t walk. Today my foot is still purple and swollen but I can limp. This morning when taking a bath I found a purple spot the size of a quarter on the bottom of my foot. Should I be concerned?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to kicking the wall there has been soft tissue injury leading to inflammation of soft tissues causing swelling as well as pain..

Purple discolouration is due to rupture of small blood vessels and spillage of blood into the soft tissues leading to bruising and hematoma formation..
Purple spot of the size of quarter under the foot seems to be due to bruising only as the spilled blood can move downwards due to gravity and can collect in the soft tissues..

In case if you are able to put weight over your foot then there are less chances of bony fracture but in case if there is severe pain on putting weight over the feet and you have pain in walking there can be probably fracture in bone due to trauma and in that case you need to consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated an an x ray can help in confirmation..

In case of bony fracture reduction and immobilization of bony segments is done for bone healing..

In case if there is only soft tissue injury then you can do cool compresses over the swollen area..
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
You can also apply Heparin gel to reduce the bruising faster..
Apply analgesic and muscle relaxant gel to relieve pain..
Sleep with leg slightly raised as compared to head..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
