What Causes Purple Bruising On The Leg With Oozing Pus?

Hi, my brother was bitten by what we believe is a spider and we went to the doctor about 2 days ago and the dr said it was a spider bite and gave him a shot and rx for antibiotics and cream. Its on the back of his leg and its still red but now he has a purple or bluish black banding around the outer edges. Lot of puss and his ankle on that same leg is swelling. Is this part of the healing process?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best for him to be reviewed if there is a lot of pus and increasing swelling.
This may indicate that the infection is worsening and he may need a change in antibiotics

In addition, the doctor would need to assess to see if an abscess (localized collection of pus) is present.
If an abscess is present, it would need to be incised and drained. This usually an in office procedure but it would depend on the severity

I hope this helps
