What Causes Purple, Yellow And Green Colored Bruises On Legs?

I have been getting bruises on my legs with what feels like a lump.....not frequently but it s definitely not normal for me. I have one on my right lower leg above the ankle and the bruise is very large, purple, yellow, green and there is a lump that is not visible but I can feel it when I touch. Could this be a clot rather than a bruise? Theresa

Hello,

It could be of great help if you would send a photo of that large, purple, yellow, green bruise to evaluate the changes myself. To explain a few more things, when we hit against something (object), often it is a bruise forming there, first it is purple, then after a few more days it becomes yellow-green.

If there is a lump there, definitely there is a blood clot, We do recommend to use cold compresses when you first get hit (for the first 48 hours). Then, we do recommend alternating warm and cold compresses to help disperse the accumulated blood, preventing infection. So, at this point, I advise to apply alternating warm and cold compresses for a couple of days. If still no improvement, should apply heparin gel locally.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
