What Causes Pus Discharge From A Wound On The Head?

my brother fell on 9/15 in the afternoon and scrapped his head. We washed it and covered it. Next morning it still was bleeding. went to his doctor. she press out the stuff under the skin and cleaned it, antiseptic and covered it. He started taking an antibioitic that night. that night when changing the bandage & pad, it was hurting, went to ER and they pricked it open and cleaned out the pus, put antiseptic on a pad and covered it. tomight 9/18 when changing bandage, there is new pus. is that normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there is more discharge forming then it is possible that the infection is not responding to the antibiotics used.

He needs to be reassessed to determine if this is the case.

If it is an abscess that was incised to allow pus to drain then the pus may represent continued drainage which is not unexpected.

I hope this helps
