Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, My husband has a little hole on his left forearm and when you look in it, it looks like a hole. There is pus coming out of that hole coming out from the vein. My husband told me he didn t scratch it or injure it in any way. He said he just woke up one morning and that was a scab and now this. Do we need to go to the emergency room? What could it be? Thanks in advance!
The skin lesion can be an injury that went unnoticed for a quite some days and later got infected or it can be an insect bite that led to infection and formation of pus.Skin lesions are commonly cause by staphylococcus or streptococcal bacterial infection. Although some other microorganisms also can cause this.Does he have fever? Is it itchy?
I suggest, get it examined by a dermatologist. Some blood tests need to be performed as well as, if needed pus examination might be done. Medical history and travel history is important as well. Depending on the cause appropriate antimicrobials like broad spectrum antibiotics will be prescribed by the doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
