What Causes Pus In The Middle Of The Chest After Heart Surgery?

My father had a open heart surgery a few weeks ago and he has a pus accumulation in the middle of his chest. This is along the area which was cut open for the surgery. He now has developed high fever overnight and also has some body pains. What has to be done now?

It sounds like he developed a wound infection that has gotten into the blood now. You need to bring him to the Emergency Room right away to have this checked and get him started on antibiotics. He will need IV antibiotics and possibly the wound will need to be cleaned out as well. Don't wait. Once infection has gotten into the blood, it can be very serious. Hope this helps.
