What Causes Radiating Pain From The Buttocks To The Legs?

I returned on a long flight from Venice (10+ hrs) and during that flight, I had kind of aching in my buttocks and back of my legs. This has been going on for a week. I thought I pulled muscles just moving baggage and walking through airports but I am active so that should not be the case. I am 67 and healthy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a 67 year old having aching in buttocks and back of legs going on for a week, traveled 10 hours in flight, though of pulled muscles.
Your history is suggestive of a condition called sciatica in which the lower spinal cord is compressed by something.
The most probable reasons of your problem can be as follows.
Slipped disc.
Lumbar canal stenosis.
Muscle spasm around spine and so on.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
MRI of the lower spinal area.
Clinical examination and additional investigations.
Consult a Neurosurgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and further management as per the cause found.
Take rest till well diagnosed and managed as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
