What Causes Radiating Pain In Stomach And Back While On Ciprofloxacin For UTI?
I have I have been taking Cipro for a UTI since fri and I broke out in a rash yesterday and now I ve been woken up with very uncomfortable stomach pain that radiates through to my back. It feels like major heartburn and like a big ball of gas sitting in my stomach. Should I go to emergency? I stand up and the pain is a little better.
Noted your history about taking Ciprofloxacin for UTI and developing rash as well as pain in abdomen that radiates to the back. The commonest cause I can think about are as follows: Rash looks to be due to reaction to Ciprofloxacin. The pain in abdomen that radiates to the back can be due to gastric ulcer on the posterior wall of stomach.Possibility of pancreatitis has to be kept in mind. Hence I would advise you the following: Stop Ciprofloxacin. Take an antihistamine and antacid. Take a PPI like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole. Rush to ER so that proper clinical evaluation and investigations can be done: CT scan of abdomen. Upper GI Endoscopy. Tests of blood particularly for liver and pancreas functions. All this will allow for proper diagnosis and management as per the cause found along with treatment of the rash.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
