hi
Thank you for your query

Before I answer your query,I would like to know what type of illness was your dad suffering from, and for what type of infection he was on Monocef.

The drug name Monocef, composes of Ceftriaxone, which is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacteria's cell wall so that the wall ruptures, resulting in the death of the bacteria.

The side effects being unusual tiredness or weakness, unusually pale skin, dizziness, "fever or chills", severe back or stomach pain, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

I would like to ask you, whether he used ceftriaxone for the full course of treatment. If he did not, the medicine may not clear up his infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection more severe than before, and harder to treat. this could also be the cause of rise in temperature.

If he had used monocef, before for similar illness,iI would like to inform that Long-term or repeated use of ceftriaxone may cause a second infection.you need to consult your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this.

You need to tally your history based on this info, and if you're sure it started right away once he started having monocef, then I would assure that this is the side effect of monocef. You need to stop giving him the meds, and check whether the fever subsides,If yes,it was the side-effect.But ,If no,Then he needs further treatment may be as a secondary infection,or some other infection that which could not have been treated with Monocef.

Thank You and Hoping this helped.

Stay healthy.
