Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Raised Heart Beats In Spite Of Being On Medication?
I was diagnosed with high blood presure. It was at times 165/110. I started on samples of Benicar and it didn't do much. I went back to the doctor in a week and he gave me samples of Tribenzor 40mg/5mg/25mg. After four days my pressure is between 120 and 135 over 84 to 96 the past few days. Why is my pulse still in the mid to high 90's?
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your high heart rate could be related to a metabolic disorder (chronic anemia, thyroid gland dysfunction, electrolyte imbalance, etc.).
For this reason, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate for the possible causes:
-a resting ECG
- complete blood count for anemia
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance.
If all the above tests result normal, I would recommend adding a betablocker (Metoprolol, Carvedilol) to your current therapy.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
