Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have these lines on my back which look like a cat scratched me -- furthermore-- they are all horizontal and about an inch apart (width) from one another. The lines are raised and are not flat, thus, the appearance is of a horizontal (1cm wide) scar on my back (2-3 inches long).
Scratch marks or rashes are commonly caused by contact with allergen or irritant, side effects of certain medications you take, dermatographia, scratch marks from pets like cats, etc. You are suggested to check the medicines you are taking to avoid any side effects due to it. Wash clean the bed cover and clothes with warm water and savlon or dettol.
Dermatographia will go away by itself. Stay away from pets, dust, allergens or irritants. You can take antihistamines for relieve. If the rashes are itchy you can apply locally hydrocortisone ointment or cream in the area affected. Take care of your hygiene, take showers regularly with a medicated soap. Avoid scented soaps or body lotions.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
