What Causes Raised Rashes All Over The Body Of A Child?

My 13 year old son has been sick with a cough and low fever on and off for about five days. He felt better today but now has developed a rash all over his body and face. It is raised and he is hot to the touch. Wondering if I should bring him to the dr.

Hi,
The history given by you is suggestive of viral exanthematous fever. In such conditions there is prodrome of infection usually by upper respiratory tract infection and fever.... as most of these spread by air borne route.

The diagnosis in your son case could be measles, chickenpox, rubeola, dengue fever etc. It could be also a drug rash if your son has received any.

please consult a doctor for the same. Your son might need some basic blood investigation like complete blood count for total white blood cell count, platelet count, urine examination, chest x ray.

In the mean time give him plenty of water, Adequate nutrition, start him on round the clock paracetamol, and if available then multivitamin.

Isolate your child from other siblings or kids in the family. Keep him at home. Don't send him to school.

Hope this helps you.
