What Causes Raised Redness After Removing An Ingrown Hair On The Leg?

Hi....I do believe that I have....had an ingrown hair on my left leg. Now, I must tell you, that I haven t shaved my legs in months.... Anyway, I noticed this boil looking bump on my left leg yesterday morning. It was raised and sore to the touch. As the day went on, it became more pronounced toward the center of the bump and ended up producing a whitehead. Bottom line is.....I plucked the hair from the center of this whitehead and while I found immediate relief, the raised area around it is a deep red color and I am noticing a pinkish circle about an inch out around that center. I have been applying a HOT compress to the area and elevating my leg..... Is there something else I should be doing?

Hi,

As per your query about redness and raised bump after removing an ingrown hair on the leg can be due to folliculitis which is very common. Sometimes it can cause pus filled blisters like pustules and antibiotics may be need orally and locally to be used.

You need not to worry for this and use antiseptic ointment like betadiene to control infection. Avoid hot compressions. If its causing much pain you can take anti inflammatory medication orally like ibuprofen and consult a physician.

I hope this information helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
