What Causes Random Crying Attacks?

Hello. I've been getting sudden "crying attacks" where I just start crying for no reason I start to hyperventilate and it feels like I can't breathe. My chest starts to hurt and it feels as though no air is coming in my lungs. I feel really weak and I can't stand for a few minutes afterwards. This has happened a few times when I was younger but never this bad or this often.(about twice a day or more)What's wrong with me?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You have sudden crying attacks and you start crying without any reason. These attacks are occurring sometimes even two times a day. These attacks are followed by weakness, difficulty in breathing, chest tightness etc symptoms. Such type of symptoms can be the presenting feature of emotional lability. A lot of individuals with depression or other mood disorders show emotional liabilities. As these attacks are causing significant impairment in your day to day functioning so I'd advise you to not to ignore this and visit a psychiatrist for help. Medicines like SSRIs can help if you have depression. Even counselling by a good psychologist can help to find out exact cause behind such crying spells.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
