What Causes Rapid Heart Rate After Flu Episode?

I contracted the flu on December 28, fever,chills,headache,bad cough with lots of greenish phlegm. It took almost 2 full weeks and a prescription of cerufoxime to get rid of the cough. I had constant bouts of racing pounding heart during this period which I thought was due to fever, The racing pounding heart has not gone away. It gets so bad I can hear it pounding in my ears. I have had chest xrays, ekg and blood tests all normal.

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to possible cardiac arrhythmia. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and performing some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance
- complete blood count for anemia.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
