Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rapid Heart Rate While Climbing Stairs?
why would my heart rate go from 50 to 110 climbing stairs. I am in great condition. I work out almost every day. My resting heart rate is around 49-55 but when I climb a flight of stairs(15 steps) it can go as high as 110 which I think is not normal for me.
These changes are quite normal during physical activity. Nevertheless, if you experience shortness of breath during climbing stairs, I would recommend performing some tests:
- a cardiac ultrasound and resting ECG
- a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests
- thyroid hormone levels
- blood electrolytes
- complete blood count for anaemia.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
