What Causes Rash In Lower Abdomen After Child Birth?

Hi, I gave birth to my first child, daughter 10 weeks ago. About 4 weeks ago I developed pretty small patch of rush in the lower part of my abdominal. Since then it has rapidly spread and become very itchy, still persisting in my abdominal only. I have got Dermovate Ointment from my GP. The rush is slightly better, however I am covered in sort of itchy spots anywhere on my body. My skin is itchy mostly towards the evening, through out the night and it feels like, as if I was stunk with stinking nettle. Can I assume, that this is a side effect of the Ointment? And, what exactly have I developed in my abdominal? What should I treat it with. I am breast feeding by the way. Thank you. Verona

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I feel it's a fungal skin infection developed on a lower abdominal skin after overstretched skin during pregnancy must be massage with oil post delivery in order to get abdomen back to original shape post delivery. Application of ointment and tied in abdominal binder after bath. All of this caused a moisture wrinkled skin, a condition favorable for fungal growth. Treatment consists of application of multifunction ointment or dusting powder. keeping the skin open to air or cover it with thin and smooth garment. Oral medications may be advised as per need by a skin specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
