What Causes Rash On The Face, Similar To A Sunburn?

My husband has a red rash that looks like a sunburn. It I only on his neck and face, on the right side. It is warm to the touch, not raised, and is not itchy or painful. It looks exactly like a sunburn. Even on his face, there appears to be an outline of sunglasses.
