What Causes Rash/sore On Scrotum While Having HIV And Herpes?

I have a circular rash/sore on my scrotum. It is red, inflamed, itchy. Not breaking the skin. Came on over the course of 4 days, starting as tight skin in the area, then becoming itchy, then red and sore. I do have HIV and herpes though my herpes outbreaks are confined to my butt cheek. Im on Cymbalta, Reyataz and Epzicom, and Valtrex for the herpes.

Hello
Since you are taking anti viral treatment for HIV infection and also treatment for herpes . These rashes is also due to varicella-zoster virus disease and called as "OPPORTUNISTIC INFECTION IN HIV ".
Since you mentioned that you are already having herpes.
Since it is not clear , type of virus , so when lesions are atypical ( as may be in your case) or diagnosis is uncertain, swabs from lesion or tissue biopsy can be submitted for virus culture for direct fluorescent antigen testing or PCR.
Beside above mentioned treatment start prompt antiviral treatment from your treating HIV specialist.

Thank you for query.It may be due to fungal infection.Please take following precautions.Use loose cotton clothes.Keep area dry.Apply antifungals like terbinafine which is fungicidal.Once subsides use regularly antifungal dusting powders like candid or absorb powder to prevent recurrence.consult doctor if does not subside.You can get back to me for any clarifications with the photos.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist
