Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rashes All Over The Body Upon Intake Of Prednisone?
I just finished taking steroids prednisone after 6 weeks. I now have rashes all over my body in different areas. I took this pill due to an allergic reaction. Is this normal. It is really itchy but I do not want to go back on it. Help. How long will this last. I am still using steroid cream. Thank you
Probably the rash you are having now is the same rash you had due to the allergic reaction. Steroids suppress the immune response and can settle down an allergic reaction. When you stop them, the rash may come back. You will need to identify the cause of the allergy. If it is not possible for your to pinpoint it then skin tests can be performed. Only when we avoid the offending agent (that is causing the allergic reaction), the rash will settle and you will not need to take steroids anymore.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
