What Causes Rashes High On The Inner Thigh And Towards The Scrotum?

About 2 months ago I got a rash high up on my inner thigh and slightly on the side of my scrotum, after about a week it went away with the use of canesten cream, a month later I was given anti-biotics for an infection from my cold, another rash appeared in the same area (rash was a warned side effect of the anti-biotics), the pharmacist recomended cortate cream. After using the cortate cream for a few days I started to get small bumps on the side of my scrotum. They were painless at first until last night the rash started to reappear so I tried the Canesten cream again. Now today those small bumps are larger blisters and appear to have some puss. What can I do about this?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I would keep a possibility of fungal infection in the groins along with bacterial infection (folliculitis) secondary to the topical application of a steroid(cortate cream).

If I was the treating doctor I would have suggested you a course of an oral antibiotics for a week for the bacterial infection. My choice would be penicillin group of antibiotics e.g Amoxycillin.

You should continue with canesten/clotrimazole for 4-6 weeks, at a stretch. Stopping it mid way would allow the fungus to come back again. Along with that, I would also suggest an oral antifungal e.g fluconazole 150mg once every week for 4 -6 weeks.

An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily would provide symptomatic relief from itching.

regards
