What Causes Rashes On Leg After Injecting Methamphetamine?
OK I shot method into a vein in my upper thigh. I didn t miss cause it didn t burn at all or no redness around site. But I felt a warm sensation circle around down my leg then a red sunburn like rash that is super warm to the touch. Did I hit an artery or something?
The following might be few causes of rash: 1) Allergic reaction 2) Lichenoid drug eruptions 3) Steven Johnson syndrome 4) Cellulitis 5) Acute exanthematous pustulosis
Treatment depends on the cause. I shall mention treatment of allergic reaction to methamphetamine: 1) Antihistamines like Benadryl tablet is to be taken 2) A cool compress or shower can help calm a fiery rash. Gently pat dry and then moisturize. 3) Over the counter hydrocortisone cream is helpful 4) Calamine lotion is helpful too 5) Avoid the allergen that is methamphetamine from next time
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
