General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Your son's rash may be related to the blood transfusion he received. Transfusion reactions are uncommon, but they can occur. Symptoms of a transfusion reaction can include fever, chills, itching, rash, and shortness of breath, among others. In addition, individuals with G6PD deficiency are at increased risk for hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) after receiving certain medications or exposure to certain substances, which can also cause a rash.
It is important to contact your son's healthcare provider and report the rash, especially given his G6PD deficiency and history of hemolytic attacks. They may want to evaluate him further to rule out any other potential causes or complications. Treatment may involve medications to manage symptoms, as well as supportive care to help prevent further hemolysis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
