Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rashes On The Hips While On Spironolactone?
I have been taking spironolactone tabs (25 mg) for several weeks for an off label use (hair loss). I have just developed a rash on both hips (flat, red dots), no itching. What does this mean? If it s from the medication is it an emergency or can it wait if I just stop taking the medication (if that s the cause)?
One of the most common side effects of spironolactone is a rash consisting of flat, red dots which may or may not be itchy. This isn't an emergency situation and doesn't mean that you'll experience life-threatening problems.
The rash can occur after several weeks of use and doesn't necessarily have to start once you begin with the medication.
Since you're using the medication off label, then discontinue with it and see if you notice any difference. If the rash still doesn't resolve, then there may be another cause. Other medications and a heat rash can be excluded then.
