Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rashes On Thighs And In Armpits While On Ritalin?
My son is 11 years old, has a cough, nasal congestion, is 120 lb. no fever, and takes Ritalin 20 mg la as a regular medication. For his cold symptoms he was given mucinex, drank some green tea and had cough drops for the cough. He now has a hive live rash beginning on his thighs and under his arms.
Hi & Welcome. Since he's been taking Ritalin (Methylphenidate) apparently for the treatment Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as a regular medicine, it is unlikely to be responsible for development of the rash on his thighs and armpits. This is an allergic reaction seems to be due to the prescribed medications for the cough most probably Mucinex. He needs to be examined by his treating doctor for the treatment of the allergic rash and to use an alternate but a safer medication for his cold symptoms. Hope this helps.
