What Causes Rashes Under The Armpit?

My 17 year old son all of a sudden broke out with what looks like hives underneath his armpit to about midway to his waist. Just took his temperature because he said he felt warm and it was 100.3. Gave him something for the fever and a Benadryl for the itching
