What Causes Raspy Voice After A Thyroidectomy?

I had the right side of my thyroid removed the end of June, last year, and still have a raspy voice. I went today for regular blood work and asked my primary doctor how long this should last. I was told to ask the surgeon, who I haven’t seen since surgery. I was given no directives astowhat to expect, however, that’s the only thing I have noticed. I asked when I should be checked again to make sure left side is ok, and was told blood work would be taken ever 6 months. Blood woek didn’t find the nodule, a scan did. Any recommendations.

Hello,

There is a possibility of laryngeal nerve palsy, which can occur during operation of the thyroid. You should visit ENT specialist to confirm the same. If the there is palsy then it's less likely to improve. So visit ENT doctor and get laryngoscopy done to look for vocal cords.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
