Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After an airplane flight i developed a rattling occasional cough...no head or sinus congestion...no throat soreness or drainage...not a persistent cough...no fever...no shortness of breath and no tightness in chest...no other symptoms except the rattling cough occasionally that has mild mucus production.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Rattling cough with mild mucus production suggests a lower respiratory tract infection. It is quite possible that you caught the infection while on board. I suggest you to consult a pulmonologist or a physician for clinical assessment and investigations like X-ray chest. A mucolytic syrup will help to clear the mucus accumulated in the chest. In case there is yellowish or greenish discoloration of the mucus, an antibiotic will be required. Please consult your doctor for prescription of relevant drugs. In the meanwhile, you can take steam to loosen the mucus deposit in the chest.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
