My symptoms appeared nearly 3 weeks ago with a tight chest. I d cough, chest would rattle but nothing would come up. Then to add to it I got a head cold which has now subsided but I still have the cough. I do cough up mucus sometimes but the majority just won t shift. I m taking bisolven. I also have mild emphysema. I can hear the stuff on my chest when I cough but It won t come up. I m so tired from coughing and my legs ache when I m standing. Weird!!

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The symptoms of tight chest, rattling sound, coughing of mucus and history of emphysema are suggestive of exaggeration of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema).
You need to consult your treating physician for clinical assessment and to monitor the treatment.
The dose of drugs may have to be modified.
The cough which is troublesome and is causing tiredness can be controlled with symptomatic treatment.
Cough can be controlled with symptomatic treatment in the form of cough suppressants.

Thanks and take care
