What Causes Recurrent Sweet S Syndrome Lesions On The Face, Arms And Neck?
I have sweeets syndrome , severe Crohn’s disease and fibromyalgia as well as menopause. I started breaking out with sweets and had nasal congestion a little before Christmas. I was given a short prednisone taper starting at 30mg a day for 3 days. Once that was tapered down to 1/2 a pill all my symptoms returned. This time I was given another prednisone taper but a higher dose 60mg a day for 5 days. Once again I just finished it this week and already I have coughing sneezing nasal congestion and sweets lesions are popping up on my face, neck, arms and legs. Now I have this new pain in my elbow as well. I am tired of being sick. I don’t even want to bother to get out of bed to do anything. My husband busts his but to try and make ends meet but my medical bills and not working are killing him. My level of guilt is unbearable.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* The exact cause of Sweets syndrome is not known, but there are certain predisposing factors in your case to give recurrent flare up as
- menopausal age - being female - associated Crohn`s illness.
- low immunity level.
* As you know very well, the steroid is the only and main course of therapy ; additional trials can be with home management of
- Tub bath with cold water added epsom salt and lavender oil.
- Intake of turmeric and honey to boost the immunity level and fight against the microbes.
- Local application of aloe vera gel.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
