Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent UTI While Suffering From Diabetes?
I am diabetic2, I have been having urinary bladder infections fro several months. I have seen a urologist several times and given anti biotics several times . works while taking them then it returns. My question is: could any of my diabetic medications cause some of these infections, such as metformin or lack of vitamin D?
These medications are not associated with urinary infections and are not the likely cause symptoms. Diabetes, particularly if the blood sugars are not tightly controlled, can affect the immune system and make infections more likely to occur. Repeated infections may imply that there is a structural issue with the urogenital tract or the bacteria causing the infections is resistant to the medication used. A urine sample may need to be sent to the lab for analysis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
