What Causes Recurrent Black Spot At The Base Of The Heel?
Hi .About 10 days ago I notice a black spot on the sole of my 6 year old daughters right foot, at the base of the heel. Approximately a week later another smaller black spot appeared on her big toe of the left foot. The spots do not appear to have increased in size and are relatively flat. The spot on the right foot at the base of the heel is every so slightly raised but smooth. Initially we thought it was a blood blister and attempted to prick the spot but this had no effect. Could this be plantar warts, as my daughter runs around at school without shoes and has swimming lessons where she kicks off her slops and walks through to the swimming pool area. Thank you Kind regards,Tanya Hoch
Most likely these are minor hematomas, which is common in children playing barefooted. These are red colored initially but turns black shortly, then blue and finally disappear. May be a bit painful initially. Pricking may not help, as mostly these are minor only and the blood clots shortly. This is unlikely plantar warts- which are very painful, and usually colourless.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
