What Causes Recurrent Bladder Infections?

I am 72 years old. Have had bladder infections for years. Have taken antibiotics for months at a time. I am now on cipro. Off macrodantin, which is not effective anymore. I am a cancer survivor, 16 years, ovarian. the bladder infections are constant this year. Any thoughts. Had infusions in my bladder, no help.

Hi,

As per your complain you have problem of recurrent urinary tract infection that may be because of post menopause. In postmenopausal women difficulty in complete empty bladder that one lead to recurrent urinary tract infection. I want to tell you other reasons also. Shorter urethra to anus distance also one of the reason in women.

In uncontrolled diabetes recurrent urinary tract infection is common. Kidney infection or disease also lead to this type of symptoms. Consult a nephrologist for further diagnosis. Bladder ultrasonography is helpful for further diagnosis. Complete blood cell count and urine test with microscopic examination is helpful.

After urine culture test start a proper antibiotics under doctor's suggestion. Maintain a hygiene and avoid tight clothes. Drink more water. Avoid carbonated drinks and alcohol drinking. Cranberry juice is helpful in UTI. Urine alkalytic agent can use.
