What Causes Recurrent Chest Pain?

Hi I been getting chest pain on and off again for at least 2 weeks. Maybe longer. I only notice it now because it s been for a long period of time and want go away. I have cut out coffee. I Have always ate well. I don t workout however I do have a active job. My coworkers have taken my blood pressure a few times during all of this and it has been on the high side. I do have a lot of stress in my life, but I feel that its not different then before. Is the stress finally getting to me or is it something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. For recurrent chest pain following work up is done to make sure no cardiac cause is present (as your blood pressure is high):

-Auscultation
-Blood pressure measurement
-EKG
-Echocardiography if needed
-Tread mill

If any cardiac cause is found then it is treated accordingly. If it is not present and all comes normal then it could be stress induced and for that try to relax and do regular yoga. If needed, for stress behavioural counselling will also be beneficial and suitable anti-anxiety drug may also be prescribed.

Consult a physician or pulmonologoist for examination with keeping all this in mind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
