Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Headache Despite Taking Metronidazole?
I have been taking metronidazole for a few days, I got a sudden onset of headache or migraine on Friday night and have been unwell since. I thought it was going away but the pain in my head has now started on the other side. Could it be the antibiotics?
Headache is a possible side effect of metronidazole and it might be related to its use. On the other hand there are other possible causes for the headache as well. If the pain is not better with ibuprofen and paracetamol you will need to see your doctor and have a good check to identify the cause.
Most of the time it is due to muscular pain (called tension headache) but other causes like infection or other causes should be ruled out if it is not responding to the pain killers.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
