I continue to get infections in my breasts. It started about 5 years ago with an infection under the nipple.....it was lansed oped and drained and i was on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. Later that year i got the same kind of infection in the other breats...again it was cut open and drained with the same treatment. It keeps comming back from right to left. My doctor has sent the fliud in to be tested and the results were negative for mersa of and other dieses. For the last 5 months ive been battleing it back and forth between left and right breast and pretty much living on antibiotics. Have you heard of this before because my doctor here is baffeled. I need to get to the bottom of this so could you tell me what type of doctor i need to see....infectious dieses or who???

Hi,

Let me inform you that, it is not the question of choosing a good doctor, but treating the infection in the proper way is a matter of concern. Actually, recurring of infection, particularly soft tissue infection like breast (mammary glands) are a concern. Certain obvious causes are there which could be responsible for not to eradicate the infection or autolyzed.

First is to know the nature of infection, like is it a bacterial infection? fungal infection? or protozoa infection? and according to these antibiotics need to be chosen. Antibiotic has to be given after the pus drained and drained material needs to be sent for culture sensitivity test for better antibiotic therapy. Putting the patient on a proper antibiotic is very important else infection will never cure of grass rooted level and recurrent infections are likely.

In a chronic case of infection, malignancy needs to be ruled out. As long as breast infection is concerned, instead of changing the doctor, you could discuss the case with a doctor on the topics mentioned here.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
