Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Kidney Stones Despite Taking Antibiotics?
I have had kidney stones since 1986. I have had one surgery, 6 Lithotripties and passed several stones on my own. I am now 56 with 5.5mm stone in the upper pole of my lt kidney. No blood in urine but white cells found. I have been nauseated and slight back pain. My urologist put me on antibiotics and is leaving it up to me what to do!! I need a second opinion. Leave it be or do a Lithotripties. Why do I keep getting stones??
Antibiotics do not treat kidney stones. They treat a possible urinary tract infection. Lithotripsy is recommended to remove stones which are 4 mm to 20 mm in diameter.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
