What Causes Recurrent Nausea, Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea?

I have periodic "attacks" where I experience nausea, burps taste of cheerios, significant pain in upper right quadrant, bloating, vomiting followed by diarrhea. I have negative ultrasound for gallstones and gallbladder reactivity is normal. Lactose intolerance test also normal. These symptoms were frequent (biweekly) in 2010 and I lost about 25 pounds. Endoscopy led to Celiac diagnosis. Eventually attacks ceased. I am 100% gluten free, but have had 4 attacks in last 3 months. GI suggests stress or sensitivity to fats.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurrent nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea which seems to be due to poor absorption and due to electrolyte imbalance in body. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis , food poisoning , irritable bowel syndrome , lactose intolerance , giardiasis or intestinal Ileus. Need not to worry. Take plenty of water. You should eat light and non spicy , avoid food like seafood and nuts. Avoid intake of outside food. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order stool test , ultrasound, endoscopy along with that take history. Doctor may prescribe laxative , ornidazole or albendazole along with ranitidine. You should take antacid after every meal and keep your head elevated while lying down.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
