What Causes Recurrent Pain And Burning Sensation In Left Knee?

FOR A NUMBER OF WEEKS NOW, I VE BEEN HAVING PAIN IN MY LEFT KNEE. IT STARTED AFTER i BEGAN WALKING WITH MY WIFE - TRYING TO GET 10,000 STEPS. IT IS BELOW MY KNEE CAP AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE KNEE. IT DOES NOT HURT ALL THE TIME BUT SITTING AT WORK, AND THEN GETTING UP, MAKES IT WORSE. IT IS ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN i HAVE PLACED MY FOOT AND TURN MY BODY OR WHEN MY BODY IS IN PLACE AND MY FOOT IT TURNED TO EITHER SIDE. THEN, IT IS A SHARP BURNING PAIN, LIKE A TORN MUSCLE. I AM 61 YEARS OLD. THERE ARE ALOS TIME WHEN I AM IN BED SLEEPING ON MY SIDE THAT LIFTING THAT LEG (CREATING LATERAL TENSION ON THE KNEE JOINT) CAUSE THE SAME PAIN AND BURNING SENSATION.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The recurrent pain and burning in left knee indicates possible osteoarthritis of the knee joint as age related bony erosions and cartilage damage. There is narrowing of the joint space with loose bodies inside irritating the surface which gives burning and severe pain during movements. An ideal approach would be x-ray of the knee joint standing as well as axial view with lateral position to evaluate basic parameters of joint space and bony surface abnormalities. Depending upon the X-ray findings , an MRI may be a need of time.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
