What Causes Recurrent Pain From The Head To The Face And Down The Gums?

I have recurrent headaches that last about a week, maybe every 2-3 months. It starts on the top of my head, down one side of my face, into my orbital area and eventually causes cankres in my gums on that same side of the head. These are a 7 out of 10 and the only thing that helps is ibuprofen 600mg. AFter about 4 hrs, it starts to wear off, and I have to take more...around the clock, for a good 5 days. I ve asked my PCP, she said, over the phone, that it s cluster headaches . seems odd to me. ideas?
