What Causes Recurrent Pain In The Sternum?

I am 62 yr old female with no medical problems at all. On no medications. I have been having a pain in my sternum off and on since this morning. I am not experiencing any radiation into either arms or chest area. I do not have a regular doctor and wonder how concerned I should be. I am not having any other pain, weakness or problem

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pain in sternum without any breathing difficulty after exertion.. in your age is more likely to be due to inflammation of costochondral junction, arthritis, fracture of the sternum. Confirmation of diagnosis with X-ray & physical check-up followed by specific medication advised by a physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
