What Causes Recurrent Raised Lesions On Inner Cheek?

I have a patient, male, about 70 y old, has a recurrent lesion in the form of ill defined raised ridges over the inner side of the cheek. The color of these slightly elevated ridges ( about 4-5 parallel transverse ridges) is slightly fainter than the surrounded mucosa (seemed as being odematous lesions). The patient was having this lesion one year before and was cured by itself after few weeks. Now it is persisting for 6 weeks with soreness and pain especially during chewing. What sort of lesion it could be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurrent raised lesions on inner cheek which could be due to frictional keratosis or hyperkeratosis which could be due to braces or sharp tooth. It could be due to melanosis. Vitamin B12 deficiency could be another cause for your condition. Drink plenty of water. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get coronoplasty or trimming of sharp cusps of mouth. Take multivitamin tablets and diet rich in multivitamins. Go for lightening agents if it is due to melanosis. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Prevent any toothbrush injury as it will further increase your condition. Use antiseptic mouthwash. If it is painful use topical anesthetic agent.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
